The Great Experience Conundrum

Here is what I don't understand, and maybe someone can explain it to me.  If Sarah Palin has more experience than Barack Obama and Joe Biden combined because she spent 8 years as a mayor and 18 months as Governor, both executive positions, does that mean that she also has more experience than John McCain?  I mean, after all, he has never held an executive position either.  It seems like this attack could work against them.  But judging from the convention the last couple days, you would think that the ticket was Palin/McCain.

Lately, watching the big media networks, you get to see the conservative commentators talk about Sarah Palin's executive experience.  They keep talking about how little experience the Obama/Biden ticket has by comparison.  But no one seems to be pointing out that by this metric John McCain doesn't have any experience either.

What exactly is going on in the media?  Are they buying this?  Are they afraid that if they point out this logical conclusion that they will be seen as soft on Obama?  Or Chauvinist?  I really don't understand.

I miss the days of actual investigative journalism rather than watching the media just repeating the pols talking points.  And that includes when they report on Obama.  I have yet to see a substantive story on Rezko, or Ayers, or his tax plan, or anything else.  By repeating the McCain talking points about these stories they affirm them in the eyes of the public.  But if they reported on them, the public would see how hollow these claims are.
